1.- Brutal Chess is a 3D chess game with several levels of AI inspired by 'Battle Chess'.

Brutal Chess is actually pretty good. The board and pieces look nice, the AI is good, it actually take time to make a move. Alas, this game will also not load correctly. I imagine that I am having the same problem that Dreamchess is giving me, which is to bad.
I'm not a big fan of chess but if I do play it, at least I want it to look good. Brutal Chess certainly fulfills this with excellent 3D graphics and some cool features to keep the game interesting.
Despite the name Brutal Chess, the game is in no way violent or brutal. The rules and gameplay are as in any other Chess game except here you can choose some pretty cool chess piece designs and the 3D graphics make it look great. The developers have added a few other touches of realism too including shadows, the ability to rotate the camera in any position and history arrows to show your previous moves.

3.- Eboard has a relatively simple interface, which comes packaged with a few alternatives graphical themes.

Eboard has a relatively simple interface, which comes packaged with a few alternatives graphical themes. You can use this client to play against the computer, a remote server, or directly with another Eboard user on a remote computer.
In the last two cases, you can chat with the other player using the text entry field in the left bottom corner. board also makes it easy to teach chess to somebody. You can replay a whole game and explain its strategy by moving back and forth, move by move, with the VCR-like buttons in the lower part of the window.

Recent versions also add a number of alternative skill levels with slightly modernized gameplay. Kobo Deluxe uses SDL for graphics, sound and input, which makes it possible to build and run the game on pretty much anything.

5.- 3D Chess, 3 dimensional Chess game for X11R6.

By default, Ubuntu comes with glChess, part of the GNOME game suite. It uses the venerable and solid GNUChess engine, but the 2D graphics, while functional, lack the flash common in modern computer chess games.
3 dimensional Chess game for X11R6. There are three boards, stacked vertically; 96 pieces of which most are the traditional chess pieces with just a couple of additions; 26 possible directions in which to move.
The AI isn't wonderful, but provides a challenging enough game to all but the most highly skilled players. 3D Chess is an odd, yet interesting game. You have three boards upon which to play, a few new pieces, and no manual to tell me how the new pieces work!!! But this game looks quite cool though, a bit like chess in Star Trek. All it needs is a manual or a link to a website containing documentation. Also, there is no AI to handle this game, so you must have another person to play with. I also like the board names which are x, y, and z.

6.- Toribash is a ragdoll-physics, turn-based fighting game.

Toribash is a ragdoll-physics, turn-based fighting game. Create your own martial arts movies in single player sandbox mode, or join the competition in the multi player modes.
The focus is on tactics rather than reaction and button mashing. The game features physics, full dismemberment, decapitation and comic style blood. Lovely.
The basic aim of the game is to fight the opponent, scoring points for damage. Some limbs break easier then others, others give more points when hit. To get more points, each joint can be relaxed, contracted, extended or held. This makes the gameplay very open-ended as there are no set moves, although many people will copy a move which seems to work well.

7.- Atomic Tanks, a simple to play strategy game where you have to take out your enemy.

Atanks is a multi-platform Scorched Earth clone similar to the Worms series of games.

· Fixed issue where if the first player was neutral they would not receive credit for wins.
· Fixed issue with the credit system where games end in a draw.
· Fixed background drawing code so that if no image is available we now avoid a crash and generate a new image.
